Jeri Olson McCoy - Fiber Artist

Jeri Olson McCoy

Teaching Experience Grades K-12 and Adults

Weaving is my passion and I love sharing it. There is great satisfaction in watching the enthusiasm of each student as their piece evolves. I have worked with people of different ages, ethnicities and abilities.

I work with different types of looms using several different techniques. Finished pieces can be functional i.e. runners, bags, scarves and transparencies, to non-functional i.e. hangings and
more sculptural pieces sometimes using found objects.

Here are some of the ways I like to explore and nurture creativity:

  • Weaving is a rather historical art and will teach students to appreciate a bit of history while creating and having fun
  • Encourgement - One of my favorite comments to my students is, “don’t worry. It will be beautiful”

Residency projects…

  • Simple, self made looms - create a bag or hanging
  • Runners, scarves, hangings, or tapestries - using table looms or frame looms
  • Using large print fabrics cut into strips and woven back together can create wonderful & interesting pieces which can then be framed or sewn into bags or pillows.

All projects can be adapted to fit the needs of the class and goals and preferences of the teachers.
